| Resumo | |
While the first wave of biomedical nanomaterials provided novel tools for drug delivery, imaging, and diagnostics, the field is undergoing a significant transformation, moving beyond single-purpose nanoparticles toward sophisticated, multi-component nanosystems, including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), nanofibers, and hybrid surface coatings designed for synergistic action. This perspective review analyzes emerging trends in biomedical engineering, highlighting toward integrating diagnostic, therapeutic, and regenerative functions into unified platforms. Examining recent advances-from MOFs that enhance drug efficacy to functionalized nanofibers that direct cell differentiation-we argue that the future lies in "the system is the solution." We develop three main themes: (1) Synergistic therapeutics, where nanomaterials act as active partners; (2) Smart bio-interfaces, where structure and surface engineering command biological responses; and (3) The challenge of complexity, which emphasizes the need for advanced characterization and scalable synthesis. This perspective review outlines design principles, structure-function relationships, and key barriers that define next-generation biomedical nanomaterials. (AU) | |
