Resumo

The skeletal muscle corresponds to approximately 40% of the body mass, and its integrity is fundamental for maintaining the quality of life. In this context, a better understanding and discussion of the recent advances in the field of skeletal muscle physiology and pathology will allow the development of better therapeutic strategies to attenuate muscle wasting, improve muscle regeneration and treat muscle diseases. The "1st Symposium on Skeletal Muscle Physiology and Pathology", which will be held at the Butantã campus of the University of São Paulo on November 13-14, 2023, is a scientific meeting organized by researchers from Brazil and abroad to discuss recent advances in the field of skeletal muscle physiology and pathology and novel therapeutical strategies of treatment and prevention, with focus on three central axes: 1) muscle trophism, 2) muscle regeneration, 3) muscle diseases. This event will have the support of the Brazilian Society of Physiology, the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at USP, the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at USP, and the University of Minnesota, USA. The event aims to promote interaction between Brazilian and international researchers, favoring the exchange of ideas, potentially resulting in the establishment of new collaborations in research projects and the exchange of students and researchers. The symposium will also be an opportunity for post-docs and graduate and undergraduate students in the field to interact with other research groups and present their work in the form of "pitch" presentations. Also, due to its free nature and openness to the community, this will be an opportunity to disseminate knowledge to professionals and people related to the field. (AU)
