Resumo

The project will consist entirely of the sequencing and analysis of short complementary DNA (cDNA) fragments generated preferentially from the central coding portions of expressed human genes. The fragments are termed ORESTES (Open Reading frame ESTs) and are generated using a strategy developed and patented by the Ludwig Institute. Within the project it is aimed to assemble the data, together with existing data in GenBank and Unigene, into annotated potential complete open reading frames (pORFs). The sequence data and the pORFs will be made publicly available through deposition in GenBank and posting on a dedicated web site respectively. There will be no attempt to seek any form of patent protection for the raw sequence data or the pORFs. The project will not seek to confirm the pORFs by direct experimentation investigate the pattern of expression of the pORFs or undertake functional analysis of the pORFs. Such research projects will be strongly encouraged but will constitute separate and distinct research endeavors which will require separate funding. (AU)
