Resumo

The present research plan aims to develop a numerical strategy to determine the transient response of viscoelastic half- spaces using the so-called Convolution Quadrature Method (CQM). The period of the research stay is between 01 February and 23 March, 2002. In the last few years, the visitant author has been involved in developing a numerical strategy using the CQM to solve transient wave propagation problems for viscoelastic and poroelastic domains using the Boundary Element Method (BEM). On the other hand, the second author and host of this project has been involved in organizing a group of researchers which have been developing frequency domain solutions for various types of Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction (DSSI) problems. The frequency domain Green and functions of the second author may be used in conjunction with the CQM, developed by the first author, to render transient solutions of many DSSI Problems.
