I am graduated in Biomedical sciences through university of Umeå and Uppsala (1976) Made my Doctoral thesis in immunology in Uppsala 1980 on tumor immunology and NK-cells. Associated Prof. at Karolinska Institutet (1990).Acted as Senior Scientist at KABIGen AB 1986-92, the first Biotech Company in Sweden.Moved to Brasil and Sao Paulo in 1993 as visiting prof. at FMUSP 1996. Prof. Colaborador (MS-6) at FMUSP 1996-99 and after this for a short time Head of the clinical immunological laboratory unit at HC-FMUSP. In 2000 I entered as Prof.Dr at Dep. Immunology, ICB-IV, USP and shortly afterwards became assoc.Prof. My area is in between basic and clinical Sciences. My working basis is immunology that branches into mechanism of atherosclerosis to develop diagnostics and vaccine. In HIV and Leishmaniosis the goal is the same. My lab is working immunological techniques (e.g. ELISA, Hybridomas, cell culture, Biochemistry(HPLC, FPLC,Affinity chromatography investigating new and established biomarkers for coronary artery disease (CAD).The research is focused on lipoproteins and their biological and chemical modifications as specific biomarkers. In animal models we work with mice, rat, rabbit, hamster and cow(!). Through established collaboration we work with clinical material from CAD,hypertension, metabolic syndrome ,periodontitis and HIV patients. The laboratory is tightly connected to two national research institutes : INCT-complexed Fluids and INCT-INAMI. Thus, the research spectrum ranges from physical science (including nanotechnology) to applied medical and immunological sciences.
