Morphological variation of the epiphyses in some Ambulycini hawkmoths (Lepidoptera, Sphingidae, Smerinthinae)

Resumo

Epiphyses of ten hawkmoths species of Ambulycini (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) are described using stereoscopic microscope and scanning electron microscopy. New terminologies are proposed for the structure. The epiphyses showed variations in the eight morphological characters and acanthae is described in a species. Sexual dimorphism is observed and discussed mainly in the size of the epiphyses, comb and acanthae. (AU)
