One new challenge, with the massive penetration of renewable generation (wind and solar), is the decline of the Electrical Power System's (EPS) frequency response. In order to deal with this new scenario, the development of tools to estimate key valuable parameters for frequency response is imperative. The Wide Area Measurement Systems (WAMS) signals can be useful to estimate the EPS frequency response after large disturbances. The paper main goal is to estimate the frequency response of the Brazilian Interconnected Power System (BIPS) after large disturbances using synchrophasors. These events were recorded at outlet voltage by a synchronized phasor measurement prototype, the LVS (low voltage synchrophasor), with PMUs (Phasor Measurement Units) installed in 26 universities throughout Brazil. The results show that high penetration of wind generation contributes to change the inertial power system response. (AU) | |
