Resumo

Graphene sheets were successfully grown for the first time on the surface of surgical stainless steel cylinders by direct APCVD process using methane, argon and hydrogen as precursor gases and without the addition of metal catalyst. The effects of deposition temperature, deposition time, and oxidation minimization through pre-vacuum processes, along with the use of an optimized sample holder, were analyzed. The obtained results are supported by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) characterization techniques. These graphene covered cylinders are intended to be used as orthopedic implants and are going to be tested initially in rats. (AU)
