Flatness Analysis of Optical Frequency Combs Generated by Electro-optical Modulators Using Unsupervised Learning

Resumo

An approach is proposed to generate flat optical frequency combs (OFCs) by analyzing data from electro-optic modulator (EOM) modeling via unsupervised learning (UL) techniques. The comb spectral line (SL) amplitude information of OFCs produced by either a phase modulator (PM) or a dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM) was obtained from the response analysis of both modulators. Then, the resulting data were evaluated by UL tools, enabling the generation of flat OFCs by each EOM. Separate experimental tests were conducted with a PM and an DD-MZM, resulting in the generation of optical combs with equalization of their most central lines. A positive correlation with the proposed approach is demonstrated by these results. (AU)
