Resumo

Robots are expected to become ubiquitous devices with the ability to transform people's lives. Socially Assistive Robots (SARs) can provide assistance to humans through stimuli during the interaction process. This work presents the FRED robot, a proposal for a low-cost open-source robotic platform that can be used in educational applications and healthcare therapies. The robot has several multimodal interaction capabilities, being able to speak and recognize speech, it can express emotions through its gaze and is also able to recognize the user's facial expressions.
