Resumo

In the last decade, the world has witnessed the popularization of wireless local area networks (WLANs) through the use of the WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) technology, with an estimated 6.5 million public hotspots available in 2013 and the number expected to rise to 10.5 million by 2018. Real-time wireless technologies allow users to collect and transmit data in a timely manner. This transmission does not only involve web data but also controls messages. In addition, it has a considerable impact on traditional wireless and mobile communication networks. Thus, one of the greatest challenges in this research area is how to design an efficient and robust mobility management system. The aim of this study is to develop a framework that will manage connections made by mobile devices, by enabling the user to choose their connection for each application, and allow the simultaneous use of more than one network interface. In view of this, our solution seeks to increase the flow rate for the data user. Tests results show that our proposed application obtained a higher flow rate, around 60% bigger than the standard protocol used and a reduction of 55% in energy consumption. (AU)
