Resumo

Artificial skins are flexible devices with multi-parameter sensing ability, mimicking the functionalities of biological structures. This work presents a biocompatible transducer made of agar gel with an embedded optical fiber sensor. A concatenated hetero-core fiber structure produces speckle patterns modulable by the applied physical or chemical stimulus, whereas the enclosing agar package conveys mechanical strength and flexibility. The sensor achieved force, bending, and temperature resolutions of 0.03 N, 0.14 degrees, and 0.34 degrees C, respectively, besides a spatial resolution of 0.7 mm. Furthermore, the agar structure is sensitive to surrounding liquids and moistures, endorsing possible applications in biomedical and biochemical assessments. (AU)
