The infection of skin wound may cause a delay in healing process, becoming one of the main public health problems in the world. The aim of this research was to evaluate the tissue repair process of skin wounds infected with Staphylococcus aureus in an in vivo assay through the application of silver nanoparticles (NPs) synthesized assisted by honey bioactive compounds. The NPs were characterized by dynamic light scattering, and the results showed that there was an increase in the size of the NPs with the variation of the concentration of the silver nitrate solution. Thus, in a 3 mM solution, we obtained a size of 49 nm after 120 days; on the other hand, 39 nm was found using a 5 mM solution after the same time. The zeta potential was determined for the NPs with positive values ranging from + 8.53 to + 19.9 mV. The FTIR results showed the main characteristic bands of the NPs ranging from 3300 to 3400 cm(-1), as well as the TEM micrographs showed spheroids as the predominant morphology. Furthermore, it was possible to observe that after contact with the skin, the material did not present toxicity even after 14 days. The in vivo microbiologic evaluation occurred with the S. aureus counting up to the 7th day, as well as with the wounds heal occurring in the 14th day. In the qualitative evaluation of wound healing, the analysis of fibroblasts, vascular density, and collagen did not differ statistically from the negative control group. (AU) | |
