Burn injuries remain a major global health concern due to their high mortality rates and long-term complications. Oxidative stress plays a central role in delaying wound healing by sustaining inflammation, impairing cellular proliferation, and disrupting tissue remodeling through excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced damage. Antioxidant-based strategies have therefore emerged as promising approaches to restore redox balance and promote tissue repair. This systematic review evaluated the in vivo evidence on the effects of antioxidant nanoparticle-based systems in burn wound healing. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science following PRISMA guidelines (2005 and 2024). Nine studies were included, investigating the antioxidant effects of diverse nanoparticles such as zinc oxide, silver, curcumin, silymarin, and plant-derived extracts, delivered through various carriers, including hydrogels, nanofibers, films, and nanoemulsions. All formulations demonstrated significant antioxidant activity. In vivo results consistently showed the treated animals demonstrated complete wound closure, enhanced re-epithelialization, increased fibroblast proliferation, organized collagen deposition, neovascularization, and reduced inflammatory infiltration compared to non-antioxidant controls. Despite variations in nanoparticle composition and study design, the collective evidence supports that antioxidant nanoparticulated systems enhance both the speed and quality of burn wound healing. These findings highlight their potential as multifunctional therapeutic dressings capable of controlling oxidative stress, modulating inflammation, and promoting tissue regeneration in advanced burn care.
