Resumo

There are several unanswered questions regarding colorectal carcinogenesis. The general objective of this project is to correlate prospectively, epidemiological, clinical and pathologic data of patients with colorectal tumors, who will undergo standardized surgical treatment, to the analysis of genetic profiling in the adjacent nontumorous mucosa, polyps and tumors of the same patient. This translational research may alter the clinical practice in the management of colorectal patients. We intend to consolidate a network to collect clinical information and biological specimens from patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma. It will be possible to analyze the mutational (gene structure), epigenetic (methylation) and/or expression level (real-time PCR) of Wnt signaling pathway (APC, b-catenin, axin, cyclin D); TGF-b signaling pathway (SMAD2 and SMAD4); and the role of p16 tumor suppressor gene in colorectal cancer. This information will be correlated to clinical-pathological parameters. (AU)
