Resumo

The topics of discussion for the meeting will focus on normal prion protein isoform structure and cellular function, and propagated protein misfolding in prion and prion-like diseases. These themes will cover a spectrum of research topics that will include, but not be limited to, insights into the three-dimensional structure of the prion protein (PrP), PrP interplay with other proteins, including amyloid-², mechanisms ofprotein misfolding in disease, and therapeutic strategies against prion and prion-like diseases, to name a few. We feel these topics will be of high interest to both parties; it forms the basis of a major component of the research focus for APRI, and represents a field of rising interest in the Brazilian neuroscience research community. The high caliber of scientists, and their subsequent research, will make for a most compelling and informative scientific exchange. The composition of the research topic and invited presenters will foster scientific discussion, collaboration and partnership between Brazil and Canada. (AU)
