Resumo

Major themes to be covered in the lectures are:(1) Specific issues related to drug discovery for neglected diseases(2) Fundamental biochemistry with relevance for drug discovery against parasitic NTDs(3) Metabolism of tropical parasites, drug target identification, validation and characterization(4) An overview of different modes of drug action as a source of inspiration in the design of novel therapeutic compounds(5) Discovery of hits for drug development by high-throughput screening of chemical libraries(6) Structure- and ligand-based drug design. Fragment-based methods. (7) The importance of pharmacokinetic and pharmacological properties.(8) A selection of the many different causes of drug resistance and of methods developed and being tested to avoid or minimize the likelihood of the occurrence of drug resistance.The following topics will be presented in the lectures:1.
