Resumo

The goal of this study is to develop a rapid and objective methodology of early diagnosis of human lung cancers using “in situ” hybridization (FISH) techniques. A large body of evidence supports the hypotheses that short arm deletion are a critical step in lung cancer development, likely acting through loss of one or more tumor genes. Recent studies show that deletions in the short arm of chromosome 3 (3p) may play a role in lung cancer. This project will determine the timing of specific 3 loss in lung cancer development in order to use the DNA deletion as a marker to improve the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment. (AU)
