Resumo

In this study, three news compositions of multicomponent Fe-Co-Nb-B-Y bulk metallicglasses (BMGs) were developed by using commercial raw materials (Fe-Nb and Fe-B) and suction casting process. The fully glassy cylindrical samples (empty set = 3.0 mm) were reached for Fe63Co7Nb4B23Y3 and Fe52Co18Nb4B23Y3 (at.%) compositions. The largest value of supercooled liquid region (Delta T-x = 139 K) was obtained for the Fe60Co7Nb4B26Y3 (at.%) compositionof ribbon sample. The high microhardness value was found in fully glassy and crystallinesamples, up to 1175 +/- 35 HV and 1355 +/- 35 HV, respectively. The presence of borides with thehighly refined microstructure in fully crystalline samples cooperated with highest hardnessvalues overcoming the hardness in fully glassy samples. Those BMGs open up the possibilityof using the Fe-Co-Nb-B-Y system for warm consolidation within the Delta T-x or as coatings produced by high velocity oxygen fuel, laser cladding or additive manufacturing process couldallow the application of these new materials in the chemical or petrochemical industries.
