Resumo

This article aims to estimate the knowledge production function for 1,445 coordinators of the Brazilian Research Labs. We use information from 1,652 research labs combined with information drawn from the platform of the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) and scientific publications in the Web of Science from 2009-13, and we estimate the Cobb-Douglas production function using ordinary least squares and stochastic production frontier with a normal-truncated model with heteroscedasticity. Using a typology for research infrastructures based on multivariate statistical methods, we highlight the importance of capital labour, the participation of scholarship researchers, and the relevance of the externality of permanent researchers' production in determining the scientific production of the coordinators. Our results also indicate that there is a positive productivity differential in favour of the coordinators that is seen in `multiactivity laboratories'. (AU)
