Resumo

This paper reports the pre feasibility analysis of the integration of gas turbines to biomass boilers that burn sugarcane trash. Configurations similar to those considered in this paper have been used in the case of municipal solid waste incineration (MSW). Due to the aggressive nature of the fuel, MSW boilers are derated to avoid stagging, fouling and corrosion. Gas turbine-MSW boilers integration allows that steam be superheated outside the boiler, using a cleaner gas flow. The same concept has been analyzed taking into account that sugarcane trash can be used for electricity production. In this paper two configurations were analyzed both from a thermodynamic and economic point of view. Better results were achieved with the configuration in which steam is produced both in a conventional biomass boiler and in a HRSG; subsequently steam is superheated in the HRSG, using the gas turbine exhaust gases. However, there is significant room for improvement of the simplest configuration, in which steam is raised in a conventional biomass boiler and the HRSG is just used to superheat the steam flow. It is necessary to advance through this subject as the configurations can be optimized. (AU)
