Resumo
The quark-gluon plasma, which was the state of the universe a few microseconds after the Big Bang, can be recreated in the laboratory by colliding heavy nuclei at very high energy. Such "little bangs" are performed at the colliders RHIC (Brookhaven) and LHC (CERN). In the past decade, hydrodynamics has been established as the standard tool to describe the expansion of the matter formed in these collisions. Since 2010, it has been realized that quantum fluctuations in the wave function of incoming nuclei, followed by hydrodynamical expansion, create new phenomena which are currently being analyzed by experiments. The Brazilian group SPheRIO, a collaboration between USP (Sao Paulo) and UFRJ (Rio) has pioneered the study of fluctuations in hydrodynamics, and the group at Saclay has proposed a number of new phenomena due to fluctuations. The present project aims at a quantitative understanding of these fluctuations, through a fruitful synergy between the Brazilian and French expertise. (AU)
