Resumo

O objetivo geral deste projeto é prover um arcabouço teórico para abordar o estudo da seleção sexual em uma ampla escala geográfica usando os Neotrópicos como referência para comparar o que sabemos sobre seleção sexual e estratégias reprodutivas nesta e em outras regiões do planeta. Primeiramente, postularemos predições gerais sobre o efeito de fatores ambientais sobre o comportamento reprodutivo e características sexualmente selecionadas usando artrópodes como organismo modelo. O arcabouço teórico e as predições gerais feitas nessa fase inicial do projeto serão os primeiros produtos acadêmicos produzidos pelo grupo de pesquisa, com o objetivo de estimular pesquisa sobre o tema. Em seguida, investiremos em artigos taxonomicamente orientados que explorarão em detalhes algumas das predições feitas inicialmente. Com esses artigos, pretendemos prover apoio empírico ao nosso arcabouço teórico usando a abundante informação disponível na literatura, assim como dados inéditos obtidos pelo nosso grupo de pesquisa ao longo do projeto.
