Abstract

The vertical jump performed in different conditions and the running speed are important skills in several competitive sports. To improve performance in these skills, training methods such as Olympic weightlifting and its variations (LPO) and plyometric training (TPLIO) have been widely used. However, it is not clear which of the methods allows better results, as well as, what are the factors associated with this improvement. Therefore, the present study aims to (1) compare the effects of LPO and TPLIO on the performance of vertical jump performed at different intensities and running speed and (2) to verify the factors associated with these effects. Thirty male participants with experience in strength training will be recruited. The study will be conducted in two stages. The first stage, lasting four weeks, will be used to the learning of the LPO and TPLIO exercises. Pre and post-learning assessments will be composed of: maximal dynamic strength test in the half-squat exercise, vertical jumps at different intensities (with height and jump velocity measurement, strength and power of lower limbs) and 30 m running speed (speed, horizontal strength and power of lower limbs, length and stride frequency). In the second stage, lasting 10 weeks, the participants will perform the different training protocols (2x/week). Individuals will be divided in a balanced and randomized way into three groups: LPO, TPLIO or control group. The same evaluations of the pre- and post-learning periods will occur at the post-training moment. (AU)
