Abstract

Problems - Water resources pollution: lack of immediate information on pollution sources; Missing database and continuous series of information for correct interpretations and actions; Water management: lack of preparation and detailed knowledge about the situation of water quality; Low public and private investment in environmental studies; Environments at constant risk (reservoirs, lakes, rivers, coastal areas). Proposed solutions - Improve and enhance the environmental studies to manage water quality problems immediately and in advance; Development and integration of new technologies: sensors, electronic systems, telemetry, information and communication technology tools (ICT). Project aims - i) Create a solid service of real-time water quality information. ii) Automating the IQA and the EIT through Advanced Water Quality Stations. iii) To develop an Autonomous and Continuous System for Water Quality Monitoring using Smart City ideology and information in real-time. JUSTIFICATIONS - Enhance capacity of researching and monitoring the quality of water resources, supporting and guiding decision makers, and increasing their efficiency; Encourage programs and legislation related to Water Quality and Water. Expected results - Development of innovative service specialized in automation of water quality indexes, through Water Quality Advanced Stations; Appreciable increase in temporal and spatial resolution of the Water Quality Monitoring; Providing real-time information and relevant situations reports; Information system capable of tracking, in time and space, changes in water quality by identifying and inspecting potential pollution sources.
