Abstract

Mathematical modeling of Ricciocarpus natans growth in different concentrations of Mn and Cd: phytoremediation potential and physiological and biochemical indicatorsIn order to determine the phytoremediation potential of this aquatic macrophyte, the present study proposes to parameterize the growth of Ricciocarpus natans using mathematical modeling in bioassays contaminated with different concentrations of Cd and Mn. It also proposes to evaluate the effect of temperature on the growth of this species in contaminated environment. A logistic model will be applied to determine the growth coefficient and the doubling time of R. natans. The following physiological biochemical analyzes are proposed: (i) chlorophyll a and carotenoids, (ii) anthocyanin, (iii) flavonoids, (iv) electrolytes, (v) activity of antioxidant enzymes: superoxide dismutase and catalase, (vi) spill assays and (vii) lipid peroxidation analysis. The results will provide an evaluative and predictive response on the primary production and the potential use of R. natans as phytoremediate as a function of the temperature and the concentration of metal in the medium to be remedied.
