Reproductive capacity, sex ratio, and offspring development of ethanol-preferring rats

Abstract

Alcoholism is a disease with inherited factors related to ethanol abuse and dependence. Teratogenesis, behavioral and cognitive alterations, and decreased fertility due to use of ethanol. We will evaluate whether the parameters of reproduction and development of alcoholic rats predisposed to ethanol consumption differ from non-consuming healthy rats and whether the variables are dose-dependent. Male and female rats will be divided into control (Wistar - C) and experimental A (Wistar UChA) and B (Wistar UChB) groups, treated with feed and water ad libitum, and 10% ethanol diluted in water in the experimental groups from of 65 days of life. Pairs will be formed into adulthood for mating. Groups C, A and B will have their correlated data to evaluate whether the reproductive capacity of parents and the sex ratio of offspring between healthy (C) and sick (A and B) differ. For the analysis of the reproductive parameters of offspring will be used descendants of groups B and C, monitored from birth. The standard of ethanol consumption between males and females will also be tested. The statistical significance in the experiments will be calculated by unpaired t test and ANOVA (p <0.05). Data will be represented as averages and standard deviation. GraphPad Prism will be used for graphing. (AU)
