Abstract

In the first two decades of the 21st century, the history of school institutions has been gaining ground among historians and researchers in the history of education. I This is because, in seeking a theoretical-methodological renewal in this type of research, through written, oral and ethnographic sources, we have succeeded in emphasizing the school culture, exploring the didactic-pedagogical and political-ideological issues employed in each of these Institutions and found in the multiple primary and secondary sources that have access. In this sense, the objective of this research is to know the historical and social relevance of the School for the Blind "Helen Keller" of Ribeirão Preto, in the full decades of 1950/1990, to rescue the education and teaching offered to its students, mainly through the real objectives that led to its foundation; the way the school organized its curriculum and how teachers taught their classes; the resources used and the school culture built during its 36 years of operation. For that, a qualitative approach was chosen, encompassing as a modality the case study of the intrinsic type, together with bibliographical-documentary research; Using as an instrument of data collection the documentary analysis, the interview through the technique of oral history and the logbooks. Finally, this research is expected to bring valuable scientific contributions to the reflection on how the educational process of people with visual and / or blind disabilities occurred in the city of Ribeirão Preto, and how this experience had repercussions both on the lives of the students who participated of the school and its contributions to special and inclusive education, adopted up to the present day.
