Abstract

The Brazilian technological environment at the beginning of this century supports investment in research and innovation in strategic areas, such as the development of technologic device applied to pharmaceutics research. In this sense, the present project comprehends the research in preclinical instrumentation in Nuclear Medicine. The purpose of the proposal is to carry out the initial experiments of expected performance and propose a project for further development and construction of a microPET system with detection gantry adjustable to the dimensions of the imaged object applied to preclinical and translational studies. The system to be developed can also be used in drug distribution studies by marking them with radioactive tracers, generating a different opportunity for the area in Brazil. In addition to the scientific contribution and the pre-clinical research infrastructure, the present proposal will contribute significantly to the training of personnel specialized in the development of imaging system of radioactive elements. As detector, the newest in the field will be used, the silicon photomultipliers, which are strong candidates to replace the conventional photomultipliers (AU)
