Abstract
Professor A. Inoue is one of the most important scientists involved with the area of development of metallic alloys processed in conditions far-from-equilibrium, which are the amorphous, nanocrystalline and quasicrystalline alloys. The activities during his visit of 45 days in the research group of Amorphous and Nanocrystalline Metals from DEMa UFSCar, coordinated by the responsible of the present submission, will be mainly associated, and in continuity, to the results obtained during the FAPESP thematic project "Processing and characterization of amorphous, metastable and nano-structured metallic alloys", which will be concluding just before the beginning of the visit. In particular, the visiting scientist will be working on the development of new Fe-based amorphous alloys containing low levels of boron, as for example, (FeCoNiCrMo)88B12, a composition, which can be characterized as an amorphous high entropy alloy. Thus the focus of the work will be in the design of new alloys with good glass forming ability and good corrosion resistance and therefore suitable for use as coatings in pipelines for the petrochemical industry. In addition to the main research activity in the area of development of advanced metal alloys, we will be also organizing seminars in the postgraduate program in materials science and engineering at UFSCar.
