Zoonotic agents in wild and domestic animals and their associated vectors in the private reserve Legado das Águas - Reserva Votorantim, in the municipalities of Tapiraí and Miracatu, São Paulo

Abstract

Wild life animals represent a valuable source of regionally unknown information. They can be considered indicators of environmental quality because they demonstrate, through their diseases, the imbalances of the environment to which they are exposed. Its health and good nutritional status suggest good support capacity and environmental quality for the survival of the species. Thus, in this project we propose a broad study of the main zoonoses (Toxoplasmosis, Leishmaniasis, American Trypanosomiasis, Ectoparasites and Hemoparasitoses) in wild animals of the Legado das Águas Reserve - Votorantim Reserve and domestic animals, dogs and cats, present in the area. The capture of wild animals and vectors will be conducted with specific methodologies for each group and the presence of different zoonotic agents will be evaluated by isolation in specific media and direct research by molecular techniques in blood, tissues and captured vectors. Thus, an ample study of the diversity and occurrence of zoonotic agents in the forested area, besides the generation of data for the control of these diseases and the preservation of the different species in one of the most needy regions of the São Paulo state.
