Abstract

This research project considers free space optical communication systems, FSO (Free Space Optics). One of the first tasks required to design an efficient communication system is the characterization of the physical channel (the propagation medium) together with the proposal of a mathematical model of the channel. The researcher responsible for this project has already worked on recent research with the channel model for FSO systems with atmospheric turbulence. But he did not consider the memory of the channel. The visiting researcher has already worked with the channel model for powerline communication (PLC) systems in recent research where PLC channel memory was considered. There is a great deal of interest in the study and development of FSO communication systems that use orbital angular momentum, OAM (Orbital Angular Momentum), to transmit information. This project has two objectives: a) to obtain a mathematical model for the FSO channel under atmospheric turbulence that includes channel memory; and b) to develop proposals on channel models for an FSO system that uses OAM to transmit information under atmospheric turbulence.
