Abstract

The Specialization Course in Public Health, taught by the Faculty of Public Health of the University of São Paulo (FSP-USP), as it is known today, has its roots in the year 1928, when it started the Hygiene and Public Health Course for medical doctors. From 1940 onwards, the course was no longer given exclusively to physicians, including other health professionals, appointed in 1950, of Specialization Course in Hygiene and Public Health, guaranteed in 1963, to its members the title of sanitarist. Between the years of 1980 and 1990 it was noticed the extinction of the courses directed to the medical category, besides the reduction of the offer of said course, nevertheless the course still is ministered in the current days and throughout its pioneering history has consolidated like one of the most successful educational activities, responsible for the training of sanitarians and / or public health specialists to work in Brazil. Objective: To describe and analyze the transformations of the training of the public health specialist by FSP - USP between 1928 and 2008. Method: A qualitative and quantitative historical study using documentary sources of teaching activities. A documentary fund will be created for the teaching activities of 40 courses / classes. A digital database will also be created, allowing instant access to scanned documents from the physical background. Expected results: Analytically understand how the course in question was conceived in the 1920s, implemented and conducted in the following decades, identifying ruptures, retractions and transformations in the political-pedagogical project of sanitarist training, especially in line with the social, political and Brazilian economy, over eighty years.
