Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the synergistic effects of treatment of melatonin associated with an osteogenic membrane and BMP-2 on the recovery of a bone lesion. This project is innovative, as well as the presented question, the morphological view, showing the real effects of each type of treatment and its possible effectiveness; we will include a new understanding of tissue knowledgement in general with molecular biologic analyses, which will give a better understanding of how each type of treatment is exhibiting the observed morphological results. Thus, the effects of administration of topical melatonin at different concentrations in bone repair in surgical bone defects through the technique, associated or not to rhBMP-2, will be evaluated by the following techniques: a) Qualitative evaluation by histopathological analysis using a light microscope; b) Quantitative evaluation using the stereology technique; c) Evaluation of angiogenic, osteogenic and osteoclastogenic factors by immunohistochemical technique; d) Gene expression of cytokines (IL-1², IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-±), and osteoclatogenesis factors (RANK, RANKL e OPG) and MMPs (MMP-1, MMP-8 and MMP-13).
