Abstract

This project is part of a research program on communities and networks of economic and legal interaction in ancient Mesopotamia, more precisely in the region of the Diyala river and dating to the Old Babylonian period (2000-1600 BCE). The object of this project is the so-called archive of Nur-Shamash, composed of 120 loan contracts of silver and barley and involving around 400 individuals. The goals of the project are to analyse the possibility of partitioning the community of Nur-Shamash into sub-communities, to assess the role of individuals that play more important roles in the cohesion of the network, and to study individual trajectories within this community.
