Training of specialized human resources in the molecular taxonomy field: decapod crustaceans as a training model

Abstract

This project was motivated by different fronts. Among them, the picture reported in the introduction, with a high lack of up-to-date information and Brazilian specialists dedicated to the use of molecular taxonomy in decapod crustaceans. Furthermore, the approach to marine and freshwater decapods contemplates the demand of students of different levels who were/are being incorporated into the LBSC, expanding and reinforcing the taxonomic and systematic focus on different groups of decapods with high study potential, such as the case of crustaceans from the Brazilian fauna. The development of this line has promoted an excellent growth of the work group, as well as promoting an international insertion through travels, exchanges and carrying out cooperative work. Thus, it is expected an academic and scientific growth by all involved, as well as a considerable advance in the taxonomic understanding of the group and in the formation of new taxonomists. From this scenario it is intended to achieve the following goals listed below. (AU)
