Abstract

The multi-user equipment requested here is composed by an extracellular ion-fluxes measuring system (SIET - Scanning Ion Selective Electrode Technique) coupled with an inverted fluorescence microscope. Thus, the equipment is capable of measuring extracellular fluxes of diverse ions while acquires fluorescent or bright field images, enabling the monitoring of intracellular ion concentration. In this configuration, the experimental unit allows the simultaneous acquisition of multiple variables non-invasively, supporting causal inferences for a broader integrative approach when combined with data analysis tools already developed and available for the scientific community. Such technique is not available in any other department of the University of São Paulo, conferring the establishment of an original research line and unique research unit in the Biosciences Institute, being these the direct consequences of this grant. Diverse biological systems can be investigated with this equipment allowing its use by researchers and students from different fields, confirming the interdisciplinary feature of the experimental unit while reinforces its multi-user nature, also increasing the technical and analytical scope of the Biosciences Institute. This feature favors the establishment of inter- and intra-departmental collaborations within the institution, as well as with other national and international research groups. (AU)
