Abstract

The organization of the Text Book Library (BLD) and of the data bank (LIVRES) of the School Education Memory Center (CME), developed at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo, is presented. The aim of the project is to maintain the data about the text books always up to date, and to provide the researchers with permanent access to the productions of several Brazilian disciplines covering from the early XIX century to the year 2000 which includes also educational legislation, curricular programs, disciplines programs, editorial catalogues, rare books, and so on. This work is part of a major research of the CME comprising several international cooperations of comparative studies following the research carried out by similar Institutions, and a possible disponibility of our data bank via Internet is considered for the future. The BLD and LIVRES organization is characterized by a constant feeding and improvement provide by a team of specialists of the field who analyse the text books under many different points of view, such as the nature of the contents process of production editors history, classroom memories and the use of books in the classroom.
