Abstract

The availability and sustainable management of water for human consumption are two of the most ambitious goals that countries have committed to for the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations. To guarantee water resources free of organic compounds of environmental concern (OCEC), it is necessary to employ advanced treatment methods such as advanced oxidation processes (AOP). In this project, it's intended to use and unravel the working mechanism of magnetic ferrites, through the in situ activation of oxidants, with production of radical and non-radical species, for the oxidation of COPA. It is intended to use different synthesis routes and thermal treatments, as well as to elucidate the effect of small concentrations of metallic ions on the activation kinetics of different oxidants in simple and complex aqueous matrices. In the end, it is expected to obtain an understanding of the homogeneous and heterogeneous activation processes, shedding some light into the effective implementation of POA in tertiary water treatment or effluent treatment systems.
