Abstract

Humoral and cellular responses against COVID-19 are key to suppressing viral replication, preventing severe disease symptoms and possible reinfections. Understanding how lymphocytes respond to viral infection and vaccination can give support to possible strategies to combat the disease. The cellular environment is complex and dynamic, in addition to being organized by subcellular compartmentalization. Tools for large-scale spatial analysis of RNA and proteins in cellular organelles have been shown important for the elucidation of mechanisms of cell functions. Furthermore, alterations in the cellular localization of important biomolecules such as RNA and proteins have been associated with several other pathologies, such as cancer and neurological diseases. Professor Kathryn Lilley is one of the leaders in the field of Proteomics and Spatial Transcriptomics, having contributed to the development of methodological tools to explore the dynamics of cellular organelles in different states. Her visit will contribute to the strengthening of already established collaborations, to the exchange of knowledge and to the development of new scientific projects. (AU)
