Implementation of a back-up system for generating electricity as a guarantee of stability in its supply to research laboratories.

Abstract

Unexpected interruption in power supply can cause serious damage, such as damage to equipment, loss of supplies, as well as delays in work. Even in situations where shutdowns are scheduled and communicated, serious impairment of activities that require uninterrupted power supply can occur. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Araçatuba has faced problems with the electricity supply, such as unexpected interruptions, long-term scheduled outages for network repairs, or even intervals with sudden voltage variations or a drop in one or more phases. These occurrences put at risk several academic activities that need to have 100% security in the energy supply, such as those developed in research laboratories that employ sophisticated sample processing and conservation equipment, or that demand strict and continuous environmental control. In these cases, the guarantee of stability in the supply of electric energy is mandatory and is only obtained with back-up systems for energy generation that can be quickly activated in eventual interruptions in the energy provided by the local concessionaire. The scope of this project is the implementation of a back-up system for power generation with the Motor Generator Group (GMG), to serve research laboratories at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Araçatuba that operate with very high cost equipment.
