Abstract

This project is aimed at the analysis of various intercellular mechanisms involved in the processes of installation, maintenance and recuperation from severe renal insufficiency (SRI). Among these processes which lead to imbalance in the cell functions we intend to evaluate the intercellular alterations in pH and Ca+2, production of hormones, mitogenic vessel-active substances, enzymes, hydroelectrolytic alterations through study of transporters, pumps and ionic canals, as well as immunological aspects. For this type of analyses various models of SRI will be used, including ischemia, toxicity and post-transplant SRI, combining with modern techniques in cell biology, already incorporated in this procedure.
