Abstract

The Molecular Oncology Research center (CPOM) was officially opened in August 2010. The creation of this laboratory sought to meet the most demanding quality criteria, and the design of the project was made based on the most modern research centers, emphasizing the practicality of circulation, the ease of access to technological resources and the supervision of trained professionals.In August 2017, laboratory capacity was substantially improved and increased through the inauguration of a new three-story building dedicated exclusively to Translational Research. This modern and integrated research structure has an area of more than 3000 m2 and aims to promote the direct application of basic research results in cancer prevention, diagnosis and control (https://iep.hospitaldeamor.com.br/plataformas-de-apoio/cpom/). Currently the areas of CPOM are divided into 4 main axes: a) Molecular Genetics: b) in vitro studies: c) in vivo studies: and d) bioinformatics.The Molecular Genetics comprises a total area of 1000 meters 2 and has a team of 2 Expert Biologists and 1 Technical Biologist, dedicated exclusively to molecular techniques of the Molecular Oncology Research Center. The laboratory offers a wide variety of methodologies in Molecular Biology, from the best established techniques to the most modern and innovative, such as New Generation Sequencers (NGS), Digital Droplet PCR (ddPCR) and gene expression analysis.For this, it has six molecular platforms, which allow from the targeted analysis of target molecules to the evaluation "high-throughput" for screening new targets and biomarkers. The building infrastructure allows the complete physical separation of the pre-PCR, PCR and post-PCR rooms, avoiding maximum contamination of the reactions by amplicons. In addition, we have a large area of workbenches and equipment commonly used, which can be used by all members of the research teams through prior training.We have a team about 110 students of scientific initiation, graduate, researchers and professors, who work in 15 different lines of research identified as essential to give scientific support to graduate activities, and who compose the scientific activity of the Center. These 15 lines are: Molecular Genetics of Cancer; Translational Genomics; Translational Group of Pulmonary Oncology (GTOP); Immuno-Oncology; Experimental Models in Translational Oncology; Radiobiology - Cellular and Molecular Biology applied to Radiotherapy; Cancer Bioinformatics; Pediatric Oncology Research Group (GPOPed); Head and Neck Cancer; Environmental and Occupational Factors of Cancer; Melanomas; Microenvironment and Tumor Metabolism; Genitourinary oncology; Pre-Clinical Oncology; HPV research.This project aims to improve some basic molecular genetics equipment to assist all research projects involving these methodologies of the Molecular Oncology Research Center.
