Abstract

This research project aims at structuring and operating a line of research in heterogeneous catalysis at the Unesp, Nanotechnology Laboratory, in Bauru, dedicated to kinetic studies of catalysts in operando conditions, mainly for the conversion of compounds related in environmental problems, such as CO2 for the greenhouse effect. The research's core is going to identify general behaviors of the catalysts during the catalytic activity, and the challenges and opportunities for the metal/oxide interfaces design to achieve selective CO2 hydrogenation monitored by Raman spectroscopy in operation conditions. Efforts are going to be concentrated on the development of kinetic studies, evaluating adsorbed species during the catalytic reaction, and also on monitoring the catalyst through the metal/oxide interface to determine the products selectivity for CO2 hydrogenation into methane (CH4). In addition, other operando techniques are going to be applied, as X-ray absorption and diffraction, by collaborations with researches based at synchrotrons facilities from Brazil (SIRIUS) and France (SOLEIL). The time-resolve techniques (Raman and XAS) will lead to chemometric analysis through the detection of reaction intermediates by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the quantification of these intermediates by Multivariate Resolution of Curves with Least Squares Alternatives (MCR-ALS), methods appropriate for spectroscopy evaluation. A priori, heterogeneous catalysts type Ni/Al2O3, Ni/MgO and Ni/CeO2 are going to be prepared by adequate synthesis resulting in the catalysts physical-chemistry control, mainly, in the particle size of the active phase. This may be decisive for the rational design of metal/oxide interfaces, joined the appropriate combination of metal-support, and obtainable in high activity and selectivity for the CO2 hydrogenation.
