Roots of SUS in Campinas (1974-1988)

Abstract

This is a study on the historical roots of the SUS in the city of Campinas. This research will take into consideration the articulations between the actions and debates of PAHO/WHO, the Health Reform movement, academic debate and the health social movements in the 1970s and 1980s in Brazil. The cold war and the military dictatorship in Brazil, in addition to the process of dismantling the welfare state that characterized the 1980s, constitute long or short-term temporalities in regards to the experience of the social actors in this research. Data is collected and studied from life testimonies, newspapers, official documents from the three spheres of government and reports from the Laboratório de Ensino de Medicina Comunitária da Unicamp (LEMC/Unicamp) and Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da PUC/Campinas (FCM/PUC/Campinas).
