Critique of poverty as an object of social philosophy

Abstract

The main objective of this project is to investigate the phenomenon of poverty as an object of social philosophy, guided by the following question: Considered as a negative and multidimensional social experience, in which senses can poverty contribute to social criticism? In view of this question, the work will be developed in four moments: an initial structuring part focused on studies on social philosophy; the first axis focused on an analysis of the theoretical contours most frequently present in the so-called poverty theories; the second axis aims to investigate works produced by the social sciences (the notions of precariado, sub-proletariado, ralé, batalhadores and middle class will be central) that mobilize different groups that experience different levels of deprivation and suffering. Finally, the fourth movement intends to gather and analyze the results achieved in the previous moments, in view of the question that guides the general objective of this project. The research path presented here intends to build a view that is capable of critically considering poverty. This means that it is not a question of proposing a study on the causes of poverty, nor on ways to overcome it, although, of course, these remain absolutely pertinent topics. Rather, it is about taking poverty as a negative and multidimensional social experience that coexists with different levels of lack of access to what has been socially produced. Thought in these terms, the research intends to face the challenge of presenting the ways in which poverty can contribute to social criticism. (AU)
