Abstract

This research project aims to provide an understanding of youth as protagonist in the educational field, as well as the disputes and claims around this new social subject in São Paulo in the brief period of democratic euphoria of the first Vargas government. In fact, will be analyzed the actions involving youth in educational changes and the fight for better conditions involving education between 1933 and 1935. During this period occurred the formulation and implementation of the Code of São Paulo State Education, of 1933; debates on education in the National Constituent Assembly, of 1934; and, among other movements, the reconfiguration of the secondary school and university student movement around the possible changes that the creation of the University of São Paulo could bring from 1934. Also noteworthy is the acting of the National Liberation Alliance - ANL - in line with student claims in 1935. The methodology will focus on research and document analysis in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, officious spokesperson of the forces that supported the government, the Correio Paulistano, officious spokesperson of the opposition, the newspaper A Platéa, ANL's officious spokesperson in São Paulo, Vanguarda Estudantil, newspaper supported by Communist Party of Brazil - PCB, O Homem Livre, spokesperson of other sectors oppositionists of the left, A Plebe and A Lanterna, both spokespersons of the anarcho-syndicalists. The aim is to understand how youth interacted, changed and interfered in social and political changes even in a period of democracy, before the Estado Novo. (AU)
