Abstract

The project is for technological validation of large-scale production of biomethane in Brazil. The client company is Toyota Tsusho Corporation represented by Toyota Tsusho do Brasil. Toyota is interested in investing in the production of biomethane in Brazil but consulted NovoGas (startup headquarters) for technological validation of the production process of this biofuel, mainly used in Europe, in Brazilian conditions. NovoGas is a company specialized in biogas and biomethane processes, and its founder and researcher responsible for this technological validation proposal has proven experience in the processes of obtaining biogas through anaerobic digestion in the national environment, in addition to the academic knowledge resulting from his doctorate at Unicamp. Thus, the central need of validation requires this practical and academic knowledge gathered in Startup NovoGas. To complement the validation object of the customer, NovoGas must hire specialized services from third parties in current technology in Europe and in the necessary industrial engineering areas that are not NovoGas' core. The company's headquarters is in Campinas, at Unicamp's Scientific and Technological Park, installed at LIB (Biofuels Innovation Laboratory). Besides the office in LIB, NovoGas uses an area in the Prototypes Laboratory in agreement with the Sanitation Department of the College of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism. There, NovoGas performs experiments for the development of technologies for biogas production from sugar cane, corn and sorghum straw, through percolation technology. In these laboratories the central part will take place: validation of the physical-chemical industrial process parameters of the anaerobic biodigestion of sorghum and agricultural waste for large-scale biomethane production; parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH, chemical and biological oxygen demand and reaction speed.
