Abstract

Avian Influenza Viruses (AIVs) is one of the widely spread viruses in poultry, which threats the global economy and healthy security. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play important role in the biology of all domains of life. During viral infections, the mechanisms by which EVs from infected cells modulates the host immune system are still poorly explored. Our groups have concentrated efforts to understand the pathological basis for AIV virulence, and how EVs acts as potential immunomodulators. In this proposal, we aim to determine the role of EVs derived from AIV-infected cells in the immune response modulation. More specifically, we propose to do the following aims: (1) To characterize the production of EVs from AIV-infected cells; (2) To assess the ability of EV production from AIV-infected cells to modulate the host immunity; (3) To analyze the influence of EV derived from AIV-infected cells to regulate the host immunity. To understand how EVs derived from IAV infected cells modulate the immune system can be crucial to identify new therapeutic targets and to develop new strategies to combat influenza virus and other viral infections.
