Abstract

The PRH 33.1 promotes research and trains human resources at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Integrated Energy Resources Analysis and Planning. Its aim is to analyze alternatives for meeting low-carbon energy requirements, considering all supply and rational use options, with the goal of minimizing costs and environmental and social impacts. The program conducts analyses of final energy uses and characterizes energy supply alternatives with a focus on energy transitions. It aims to investigate the economic, industrial, social, and legal determinants of energy production and use. New institutional structures for energy systems are conceived, designed to resiliently face transitions imposed by climate change. New models impact the management, concession, regulation, control, and supervision instruments of energy systems, as well as financing instruments for supply and energy use systems. These issues are key focuses of PRH 33.1, both in planning dimensions and in the field of new technologies to be incorporated into energy systems. In the development of low-carbon Energy Technologies, new protocols must be established to assess their socioeconomic, environmental, health, and risk impacts in production, transformation, and utilization. These impacts should be balanced against opportunities for technological evolution of existing energy systems and potential gains in efficiency, productivity, flexibility, valorization of natural resources, and decarbonization.
